So, you have made the decision to replace the outdated windows of your property, but how can you identify a new set of windows that are guaranteed to be both safe and energy efficient? Well luckily, we have Window Energy Ratings to inspect!
There are several regulatory bodies that verify the energy ratings of windows and doors such as the British Fenestration Rating Council (BFRC), the British Standards Institute (BSI) and CERTASS, however each of these schemes operate in the same way.
In this Window Wise blog post, our team provide a full breakdown on how to judge Window Energy Rating labels and tell you why Window Wise are one of the UK’s most trusted energy efficient window suppliers.
How to judge a Window Energy Ratings scale
Every Window Energy Ratings uses an alphabetic scale, which rates windows from G all to way to A++. This is a quick and easy solution to identifying how energy efficient windows are, with G rated windows being the least energy efficient, and A++ being the most.
To help distinguish between ratings, the Window Energy Ratings scale utilises a ‘rainbow’ design, a similar scheme that is used the rank the energy ratings of other home appliances such as washing machines and fridge freezers.
To calculate a windows’ energy rating score, three different factors are taken account. These factors are as follows:
- Overall thermal efficiency
- Air leakage
- Solar gain
All newly installed windows must achieve a window energy rating of at least C, unless the window has been fitted into a listed building.
